STREET DANCER
COLOR FICTION | 105 MINUTES | HINDI WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES | 2018
Srabanti Bhattacherjee, is a renowned theatre practitioner and Odissi dancer from Kolkata. She has been making incessant efforts in trying to break the rigidity of classical Odissi dance in the way it is portrayed and appreciated. Very strikingly, in her performances she uses the color 'black' in costume, often chooses Urdu songs, performs in protest gatherings and open spaces instead of auditoriums and temples and for an audience of common people instead of just the elite. Srabanti blends agitprop theatre technique gracefully with her dance training and her experience of participation in street plays. She calls it “Muzahemat" (To Resist).
